The Plastic Shipping Container Institute is a North Americam organization of producers of plastic pails (rigid, plastic shipping containers). Plastic pails are an important package for industrial, commercial and consumer applications. In sizes ranging from 1 to 6 gallons, plastic shipping containers allow an estimated $30 billion in products to reach market in North America. Pails bring foods to restaurants and the home, safely handle cleaners for building maintenance, bring paint, wall joint compound and mastics to the construction site, contain lubricants for the production line and are sold as reusable containers.

Containers made by PSCI members are available in a wide variety of sizes, shapes and are used in place of paper or plastic sacks and paperboard boxes by packers who seek sanitary, weatherproof, puncture-resistant containers that stack safely. Most PSCI containers can be decorated easily to carry brand advertising and usage instructions, and most are available with a variety of cover fitments to accommodate pouring or the blending of contents.

PSCI's membership also includes suppliers of plastic resin, handles, lids, molds, closures, gaskets and colorants used in container production.

The Institute's mission is to promote the common interests of, and the general well being of, the plastic shipping container industry, including consideration of local, state and federal regulatory and legislative issues and international trade issues impacting customers, suppliers and consumers.

The Institute was established in Illinois in 1976 and has been headquartered in Washington, D.C. since 1996. A nine-member Board of Directors meets prior to the general meetings which are held in the Spring and Fall of each year. The general meetings consist of a mix of industry leading speakers and extensive committee meetings.
